Biography
A truly contemporary artist, Franky Wah’s music epitomises the exhilarating power of clubculture. Born and raised in Yorkshire, in the north of England, Franky has an intuitiveunderstanding of emotion, dance floor energy and catchy hooks culminating in a sound thatresonates with both the underground and more commercial ends of the dance musicspectrum. A series of chart-topping releases have catapulted him into the public eye, wherehe’s picked up a dedicated fanbase, as well as backing from his peers and idols. FrankyWah’s broad pallet employs influences from trance, breakbeat, afro-house, techno andbeyond to create a sonic identity that sits at the apex of what modern dance music is allabout: diversity, unity and a progressive outlook. On the road he has appeared at clubs andfestivals across the world, including shows in Mexico and Dubai plus Glastonbury, Hideoutand Creamfields. Franky also runs his own label, events company and clothing brand underthe name “SHÈN”, which provides a liberating space for him to release new music, as wellas giving his support to other artists.A Yorkshireman through and through, Franky Wah has a down-to-earth attitude, a savvymindset and a consistently high work ethic, all of which intersect at the foundation of hissuccess. His can-do outlook and entrepreneurial spirit led to the acquisition of severalbusinesses after he left college, but music has always been his one true love, as he nowfocuses fully on his burgeoning music career.As a youngster Franky caught the music bug through west coast hip hop. A few years laterhe discovered artists like Roger Sanchez, Paul Johnson and Sasha among others, and fellhead over heels for dance music – one of his key influences being ‘Saltwater’ by
thelegendary Chicane. By his late teens he was spending all his spare time learning how tomake music on a ‘crappy’ laptop in his garden shed. From there he progressed to thefamous Music Factory in Rotherham before finally setting up his own studio in Doncaster,where he has been meticulously cooking up recent hits.Franky first found his place on the map due to the backing of legendary Radio 1 DJ AnnieMac on his 2020 hit ” “Come Together”. The record was triumphantly supported by those atRadio 1, spending nearly 6 weeks on the station’s “A-List” and earning the formidable title of“lockdown anthem”. This release on Sony’s Ministry of Sound imprint led to worldwiderecognition in the masses and proved the DJ as being to watch in the emerging dancespace. Fast forward 2 years and Franky launches his own label, ‘SHÈN Recordings’, bornout of a desire for pure creative freedom and a wish to further the connection in his craft tothat of his Chinese heritage, with the word itself being a reference to the spiritual dimensionof the mind.Throughout the small amount of years the label has so far been active, SHÈN Recordingshas made itself home to multiple third party artists including the likes of Sasha, Cristoph andShadow Child to name a few, as well as being the now standard imprint for all of Franky’sown releases. Alongside the label, SHÈN took up residence in Ibiza for 16 weeks in 2023,marking it a debut residency for Franky and one of many SHÈN branded shows to grace theglobe since the brands inception.If running a new label and events business wasn’t enough, Franky has also recently divedhead first into luxury fashion with SHÈN Presents Clothing.
