Berlin Tegel Airport TXL, closed since 2020 yet forever alive in Berlin’s collective memory, becomes the backdrop for this next sonic chapter. Its futuristic hexagonal terminal, striking architecture, and cultural symbolism made TXL one of the most distinctive landmarks of postwar Berlin. More than just an airport, Tegel was a gateway — a portal connecting a once-divided city with the rest of the world, and a reminder that openness and connection could persist even in times of separation.
Born during the dramatic Berlin Airlift of 1948–1949, Tegel’s first runway was constructed in record time to keep West Berlin supplied during the Soviet blockade. Over the decades that followed, the airport evolved into one of Europe’s most important aviation hubs. Its closure did not silence the memories created there; instead, they continue to echo across its empty aprons and quiet terminals.
Today, its vast concrete spaces, once filled with movement and anticipation, serve as the perfect canvas for sound exploration.
